About Us

After nearly 17 years as a stay-at-home mom of 2 children I made a life changing decision, I got a full time job. My husband returned to school full-time and with our youngest starting 1st grade I jumped up to help out financially. While I knew this would be a transition I didn’t expect it to be quite so HARD! And while I had lots of resources when I went from working to homemaking, I wasn’t finding a lot of encouragement as I went back to work. I knew if I survived the transition I wanted to be able to help and encourage other women as they returned to work as well.

By the grace of God and after many tears and much prayer I survived that first year of working and found myself becoming more comfortable with my identity as a working mom. I started this web site as a place to encourage other women as they begin the transition back to work as well as a place to continue my journey into the workforce learning from other women who are on this road with me.  I survived and you will too.

I would love to hear from you. You can email me at melanie@fromhometowork.com

  1. Thanks for putting in words what many of us mom’s are thinking and scared to face! I am at that beginning stage of this journey of back to work, and it feels like I’m starting my life over again and it’s daunting.

I do have administrative skills and a degree but I am finding quickly that employers in this market aren’t too keen on that and that I haven’t been “legitimately employed” all these years. And so it goes, nowadays.

I had all the intent to go back to work a month after my boy was born 19 years ago, but as a special needs child I laughed at the thought of letting someone else try to raise him. I’m grateful to God for providing my husband and I the slim means to for me be with him and raise him and my girls but with college looming and economy worries (and my husband’s salary and pension cut to almost 1/3) It’s off to work I go!

Wish me luck and I’ll keep reading!
